Kaley Cuoco Wants to Save Seals With The Humane Society of the United States
The Big Bang Theory star uses Twitter to urge fans to donate to protect seals
Kaley Cuoco is urging her nearly 2 million Twitter followers to donate to The Humane Society of the United States' Protect Seals campaign. Donations will help The HSUS stop the annual Canadian commercial seal slaughter.
Each spring, the Canadian government authorizes offseason commercial fishermen to kill hundreds of thousands of baby seals. They are impaled on hooks, dragged across the ice and cut open—and their pelts are often stockpiled in a warehouse.
By encouraging restaurants, chefs and consumers to boycott Canadian seafood, The HSUS intends to convince Canada's fishing industry to stop participating in and supporting the commercial seal slaughter. Additionally, The HSUS and our affiliate Humane Society International/Canada are calling on the Canadian government to support a federal buyout of the commercial sealing industry, which would compensate fishermen for lost income as the seal slaughter comes to an end and invest in development of economic alternatives in the communities involved.
Kaley’s fans can take part in her mission by using the hashtag #SaveSeals and by donating here.
