Connecticut Governor Signs Anti-Puppy Mill Legislation

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy has signed a bill to help crack down on puppy mills. SB 445, championed by Fairfield Rep. Brenda Kupchick, R-132, will go into effect October 1. Annie Hornish, the Connecticut state director for The Humane Society of the United States, issued the following statement:

“We thank Gov. Malloy for his compassion for animals and leadership in the fight against puppy mills. This law will not only increase transparency for consumers, it will also increase penalties for violations and improve the state’s pet lemon law. In addition, some of the worst puppy mills in the country will no longer be able to sell to Connecticut pet stores.”
