Cleveland Proclamation: Make Mondays Meat-free

The HSUS praises city for encouraging residents to eat more meatless meals

The city of Cleveland passed a resolution urging residents to participate in “Meatless Mondays” as a way to improve their health and environmental sustainability. Cleveland, Ohio’s second-largest city, is the latest to support the international Meatless Monday movement. The HSUS applauds Cleveland for taking a weekly holiday from meat, which will impact residents’ health and the environment, as well as spare animals from factory farms.

Cleveland now joins other cities across the U.S. including Los Angeles, CA; Washington, D.C.; San Francisco, CA and Raleigh–Durham, NC who have passed similar resolutions.

The HSUS advocates compassionate eating – or the Three Rs: “reducing” or “replacing” consumption of animal products and “refining” our diets by switching to products from sources that adhere to higher animal welfare standards.
