Dog Lovers’ Day Celebrated Around the World

Dog Lovers’ Day is a celebration observed on September 26 in several different countries around the world. This year, events were held in Hong Kong, London, Milan, San Francisco and Washington, including movie screenings of Eating Happiness, a documentary exposing the true nature of dog meat consumption in Asia.

The day is intended to remind people that dogs are our companions and to reflect on cruelty that occurs against man’s best friend. Sponsored by World Dog Alliance, The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International, the groups established the observance to raise awareness about the Asian dog meat trade and to recognize the important role that dogs play in improving human health.
