The HSUS Responds to Egg Producer Suit
Jennifer Fearing, California senior state director for The Humane Society of the United States, issued the following statement in response to the suit filed this week by major egg producer J.S. West seeking to clarify housing standards for laying hens set by Proposition 2:
"We are disappointed that J.S. West has filed a lawsuit rather than working cooperatively with the State to implement the basic animal welfare standards of Proposition 2. By a landslide vote, California voters have declared that animals raised for food should be able to turn around and stretch their limbs. J.S. West should spend its time and money converting its operations to satisfy this simple mandate."
