HSUS Statement on Missouri Senate Vote to Dismantle Prop B
Statement of Barbara Schmitz, Missouri State Director for The Humane Society of the United States:
“The Senate decided to defy the will of the voters and to dismantle Proposition B provision by provision, dealing a blow to the welfare of dogs and also to the democratic process in Missouri. Not only did some lawmakers choose to overturn a statewide vote, but some of them even voted against their districts. And the leaders of this effort also tried to manufacture an argument that overturning this statewide vote of the people was an“emergency,” which was in fact a transparent effort to block a citizen referendum on this issue. It is now up to the Missouri House and Gov. Nixon to stop this assault on voting rights.”
