The HSUS Announces Maryland Episcopal Church as Top Dog in Hymn Video Project

The Humane Society of the United States announced that St. George’s Episcopal Church in Glenn Dale, Md., was selected as the “favorite” video in a national hymn video project.
The congregation submitted a video of the hymn “O God Your Creatures Fill the Earth,” by lyricist Pastor Carolyn Gillette, in a contest celebrating St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Congregations from across the country participated in the video project by submitting recordings of their interpretation of the hymn.
“St. George’s Episcopal Church really captured the spirit of celebrating our bond with all animals,” said Christine Gutleben, HSUS senior director of faith outreach. “We particularly enjoyed the dogs chiming in with the congregants during the hymn.”
“I loved the creativity among all the videos,” said Gillette, who helped review the video entries. “Each entry took the hymn to the next level and put it out there for the public to enjoy.”
“We are honored to have been chosen as the winner of The Humane Society of the United States’ video project,” said the Rev. Connie Reinhardt, Rector of St. George’s.  “We have a number of parishioners who care deeply for animals of all kinds, which we see as part of our commitment to the whole creation.”
The HSUS Hymn Project
The hymn video project is part of the Faith Outreach program of The HSUS, which seeks to engage people and institutions of faith with animal protection issues, recognizing that religious values call upon us all to act in a merciful way toward all creatures.
As the selected favorite of the hymn project, St. George’s Episcopal Church received copies of The Green Bible (Harper One) and DVDs to support animal protection ministry programs. St. George’s youth ministry received “Catherine of Tarragon” plush cats courtesy of The HSUS and Washington National Cathedral.
