The Humane Society of the United States Names the Top Ten Emergency Placement Partners of 2011
Guilford County Animal Shelter commended for outstanding dedication to rescued animals.
The Humane Society of the United States has named the Guilford County Animal Shelter as one of its top ten emergency placement partners of 2011. The HSUS works with its Emergency Placement Partners across the nation to provide ongoing care and find permanent homes for animals saved during HSUS’ large-scale rescue missions. Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The HSUS, visited the Guilford County Animal Shelter Thursday to tour the facility and meet with staff members.
“Guilford County Animal Shelter has consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty to come to the aid of animals in need,” said Michelle Cascio, manager of the Emergency Placement Program for The HSUS. “Our Emergency Placement Partners are a crucial part of The Humane Society of the United States’ national mission to end animal cruelty, and we are lucky to have the Guilford County Animal Shelter as part of this life-saving program.”
In 2011 the Guilford County Animal Shelter provided hands-on support or placement assistance for dogs from three HSUS-led puppy mill rescues and three large-scale hoarding cases. The organization also provided ongoing care and placement for pets who were rescued by The HSUS in the wake of Hurricane Irene. Overall, the shelter came to the aid of hundreds of animals saved during HSUS rescue missions.
After The HSUS removes animals from abusive situations and provides immediate veterinary care, the organization works with Emergency Placement Partners to care for and place the animals. As local groups with access to local resources, these organizations provide the animals with continued veterinary care, rehabilitation, and ultimately, placement in new homes. The HSUS has donated enrichment toys for the animals in the shelter as a thank you for the Guilford County Animal Shelter’s dedication to helping rescued animals recover and find their forever homes.
