The Humane Society of the United States Announces Alan Heymann as Vice President of Communications
The Humane Society of the United States has appointed Alan Heymann as its vice president of Communications. Alan will be responsible for day-to-day management of the communications departments at the nation’s largest and most effective animal welfare organization.
“Alan Heymann believes in the principled but pragmatic approach we take to animal protection issues, and I am thrilled that’s he’s going to be occupying a leadership position within the organization,” states Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The HSUS. “Alan brings fantastic skills to an already top-notch crew.”
A former TV reporter and anchor with WCIA-TV (Champaign & Springfield-Decatur, Ill.), field producer at WBBM-TV (Chicago, Ill.), and lawyer, Heymann brings more than 15 years of experience to the job. Most recently, he has served as chief of external affairs at DC Water. He will be a key voice in HSUS communications strategies; oversee The HSUS’ media relations, online communications, publications and video departments, as well as The HSUS’ Los Angeles Office.
At DC Water, Alan managed a team responsible for the agency’s relationships with its customers, the media, the federal and local governments, as well as various other internal and external stakeholders. He led the agency's acclaimed re-branding campaign, launched its social media platforms and brought national attention to tap water and aging water infrastructure. Alan spent five years with the D.C. government, serving in senior communications roles for a councilmember, a mayor and the director of the District Department of the Environment. He is a member of the bar in the District of Columbia and his native Illinois, with degrees from Northwestern and The George Washington University.
Alan will work at The HSUS’ headquarters in Gaithersburg, Md., beginning Feb. 25.
