Rescue in Marion County Saves 49 Animals

The Humane Society of the United States joins Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Marion Area Humane Society for life-saving mission

Nearly 50 animals were removed from a Marion County, Ohio property for their safety and protection. Marion County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Marion Area Humane Society and The Humane Society of the United States to help with the rescue of horses, ponies, sheep, pigs, cats, dogs and more.

Working with city law director, Mark Russell, the Marion County Sherriff’s Office served a search and seizure warrant on the property on Oct. 27 and found that 49 animals were being housed in unsafe and unsanitary conditions with apparent signs of neglect. The animals have been removed from the property by The HSUS, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Marion Area Humane Society, and their custody is pending the final disposition of this case.

Corey Roscoe, Ohio state director for The HSUS said: “We applaud the Marion County Sheriff’s office, the Marion Area Humane Society, the Delaware County Humane Society and a team of dedicated volunteers for coming to the aid of these animals. The conditions these animals were found in demonstrates the need for stronger animal cruelty laws in Ohio.”

Local law enforcement became concerned about this facility after receiving numerous complaints. The animals showed signs of neglect and were in need of veterinary care.

Russell said: “We thank The Humane Society of the United States and the Marion Area Humane Society for assisting law enforcement with the rescue efforts. I’m grateful that we could provide relief for these animals today.”

The HSUS, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Marion Area Humane Society are safely transporting the animals to various locations in Ohio where they will be thoroughly examined by teams of veterinarians and receive any necessary medical treatment.
