Debra Parsons-Drake named executive director of South Florida Wildlife Center
Debra Parsons-Drake has been named executive director of South Florida Wildlife Center. The center, which provides lifesaving care to more than 13,000 wild animals annually, is operated in partnership with The Humane Society of the United States.
Parsons-Drake is a seasoned, senior animal welfare manager who has been employed by The HSUS for 11 years, most recently as senior director of the Animal Rescue, Care and Sanctuary division. In that role, she has successfully provided leadership for four animal care centers operated by The HSUS in partnership with its affiliate, The Fund for Animals. She also served on SFWC’s board of directors for seven years and provided guidance and management of center operations. Parsons-Drake has already assumed the executive director’s responsibilities and will be fully relocated in January.
Parsons-Drake is enthusiastic about continuing to advance the SFWC’s progress as the nation’s largest wildlife trauma hospital.
“The South Florida Wildlife Center is a flagship rehabilitation center for the nation,” she said. “There is a great team in place, and I am delighted to have this opportunity to work with them to help steer the future of the center.”
HSUS senior vice president Melissa Rubin said she was gratified to have someone of Parsons-Drake’s caliber at the facility’s helm.
“Deb’s dedication, abilities and deep commitment to our animal care centers made her the perfect fit; South Florida Wildlife Center is very lucky to gain such a talented executive director,” Rubin said. “During her time with The HSUS, Deb has been an integral part of our efforts to expand services and enhance professionalism at all of our animal care centers.”
Founded in 1969, the SFWC, located at 3200 SW 4th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, provides emergency wildlife rescue, expert surgical, veterinary and rehabilitative care, wildlife education and other community services throughout Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties.
