Humane Society International Promotes “Meatless Monday” at United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development
As evidence mounts about the need for greater environmental protections, it is clear that one of the most significant causes of global environmental harm is the production of more than 67 billion land animals for food each year. As preparatory meetings for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, or Rio+20, begin this week in Rio de Janeiro, HSI is attending to promote “Meatless Monday.”

Supreme Court To Decide Whether Meatpackers Can Use Sick, Injured Animals in the Food Supply
The HSUS asked the Supreme Court to reject a meat industry lawsuit seeking to overturn a California law that prohibits slaughterhouses, stockyards, auctions or dealers from buying, selling or receiving animals too disabled to walk and prohibits slaughterhouses from killing or processing these “downed” animals.
