The documentary "Madonna of the Mills" focuses on Laura from New York, who rescues dogs from puppy mills and finds them new homes. Kathleen Summers of The HSUS's Puppy Mill campaign is interviewed in the film, which debuts on HBO on August 24, 2011.

The HSUS Praises Missouri Attorney General for Cracking Down on Third Substandard Puppy Mill this Summer
The HSUS praised Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster for ordering the closure of another puppy mill after inspections conducted by the Missouri Department of Agriculture reportedly documented woeful conditions at the facility.

“Dirty Dozen” Puppy Mill Posing as Dog Rescue Group
A complaint from The HSUS contends that Laymon is violating the state’s consumer protection law, also known as the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act, by deceiving the public into believing that the dogs in her operation are rescued from other facilities, when in fact many of the dogs may be coming directly from her puppy mill.

Suspected Dogfighting Operation Raided in Pamlico County, N.C., 17 Dogs Rescued
Seventeen dogs were rescued when law enforcement raided an alleged dogfighting operation near New Bern, N.C. after a three-year investigation by Pamlico County Sheriff's Office.

Teamwork by Humane Groups Pays Off for Nearly 90 Rescued Animals
Dogs trapped in misery on a rural North Carolina puppy mill have been spared and given care and a temporary home at the Norfolk SPCA. Eighty dogs, plus five cats and four rabbits, were rescued on Thursday near Hertford, N.C., after law enforcement officials called The HSUS and asked for help.

Bipartisan Legislation Introduced in Congress to Crack Down on Animal Fighting Spectators
The HSUS and Humane Society Legislative Fund applaud U.S. Reps. Tom Marino, R-Pa., and Betty Sutton, D-Ohio, for introducing bipartisan federal legislation, H.R. 2492, that would prohibit knowing attendance at organized animal fights and impose additional penalties for causing a minor to attend such events.

20 Fighting Dogs Rescued in Indiana
Experts from The HSUS' Animal Rescue Team assisted the Lake County sheriff’s department and Lake County Animal Control in a Gary, Indiana dogfighting raid resulting in four arrests and the seizure of 20 dogs and dogfighting paraphernalia.
