Pet Valu has signed The HSUS’ Puppy Friendly Pet Store Pledge- the company commits to not sell puppies, but instead to support local pet adoption programs and provide literature that helps customers learn how to locate a puppy from a responsible source.

More Than 200 Animals Rescued from Alleged Cruelty in Alabama
The HSUS assisted the Houston County Sheriff’s Department with the rescue orf more than 200 dogs and cats who were found living in deplorable conditions in Gordon, Ala. The animals were removed from Dirty Sally’s Pet Pals, a non-profit organization that claims to offer animals for adoption.

Animal Advocates Lobby Oklahoma Lawmakers for Animal Welfare Legislation
Citizens from across Oklahoma participating in The HSUS' Humane Lobby Day 2011 met with lawmakers Monday at the Capitol to urge them to oppose SB773 which would significantly weaken the Commercial Pet Breeders Act which was passed in 2010 to crack down on puppy mills in Oklahoma. Citizen lobbyists will also ask legislators to strengthen penalties for spectators at dogfights.

Spay Day 2011 Celebrates 17 Years with More Than 700 Events Worldwide
The HSUS and Humane Society International, in partnership with the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association, are proudly celebrating the 17th annual Spay Day on Tuesday, Feb. 22. Animal Advocates Lobby Georgia Lawmakers for Legislation that Protects Children and Animals
Citizens from across Georgia participating in The HSUS' Humane Lobby Day 2011 will meet with lawmakers Feb. 17 at the state capitol to urge them to pass HB 40, or “Chief’s Law.” The bill would require that antifreeze sold in Georgia include the addition of a bittering agent to prevent children and animals from being poisoned by the sweet-tasting liquid.

Animal Advocates Lobby Maryland Lawmakers for Animal Welfare Legislation
The HSUS and Maryland Votes for Animals co-hosted the fourth-annual Maryland Humane Lobby Day at the state capitol in Annapolis. At the event, citizen advocates lobbied their legislators to prevent convicted animal abusers from owning animals for a specified time, promote funding of Maryland spay/neuter programs, and require licensing of large-scale commercial dog breeders.
