Animal Protection Charities Urge Utah Governor to Veto “Ag Gag” Bill
The two largest animal protection organizations in the country are adding their voices to those in Utah who are urging Gov. Gary Herbert to veto Utah’s notorious “ag gag” bill, H.B. 0187, which would criminalize the investigation of animal cruelty and other illegal or unethical activity at farming operations.

Shareholder Proposal Calls On Bob Evans to Improve Standards for Pigs Raised for Its Products
The HSUS submitted a shareholder proposal encouraging Columbus, Ohio-based Bob Evans Farms restaurant chain and food manufacturer to develop a plan that would ensure its sausage, bacon and other pork products no longer come from pigs bred using gestation crates.

Citizens Call on Rhode Island Lawmakers to Pass Farm Animal Welfare Legislation
Citizens from across Rhode Island spent the morning meeting with lawmakers in Providence to urge them to pass S.2191/H.7180, twin bills that would prohibit the inhumane factory farming practice of virtually immobilizing breeding pigs and veal calves in tiny crates barely larger than their bodies for most of their lives.

Tim Hortons Restaurants Challenged To Provide Better Treatment of Pigs in its U.S. Pork Supply System
The HSUS has submitted a shareholder proposal asking Oakville, Ontario-based restaurant chain Tim Hortons to disclose to shareholders the feasibility of ensuring that the bacon and other pork products used for its U.S. locations does not come from pigs bred using gestation crates.
