Statement on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Finding on Chimpanzees
The Humane Society of the United States is encouraged by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s announcement that the agency will begin a status review of the chimpanzee under the Endangered Species Act to determine whether protection of all chimpanzees is warranted.

U.S. Senators Introduce Bill to End Trade in Primates as ‘Pets’
The HSUS, Humane Society Legislative Fund and Born Free USA commend Sens. Barbara Boxer, David Vitter, and Richard Blumenthal for introducing the Captive Primate Safety Act, to prohibit interstate commerce of monkeys, apes and other nonhuman primates in the exotic pet trade.

Meet Kitty: February's Chimpanzee of the Month
Kitty suffered terribly for 25 years at the Coulston Foundation, a now-defunct research laboratory in Alamogordo, New Mexico, where she was used as a "breeder." During that time she gave birth to as many as 14 baby chimpanzees, ten of whom were taken away from her.
