The HSUS v. The United States Department of Agriculture (downed veal calf petition)
Following revelations of horrific abuse of calves too sick, weak or injured to stand at Bushway Packing, Inc. of Grand Isle, Vermont, The Humane Society of the United States filed a legal petition with the United States Department of Agriculture seeking to eliminate a regulatory loophole that allows non-ambulatory veal calves to be inhumanely handled and slaughtered for human consumption, in violation of the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act.
