New Mexico Gamefowl Assn., et al. v. State of New Mexico, et al.


State court action challenging constitutionality of the New Mexico cockfighting ban, SB10. The HSUS filed an amicus brief in the trial court supporting defendant, and asking the court to uphold the New Mexico law. On December 20, 2007, the trial court issued a ruling upholding the state's cockfighting ban. When the plaintiffs appealed to the New Mexico Court of Appeals, HSUS again submitted an amicus brief in support of the defendant. On May 8, 2009, the Court of Appeals issued a ruling again upholding the cockfighting ban.
