NRDC, The HSUS, et al. v. Gutierrez (Navy sonar)
After successfully challenging NMFS???s decision to permit the Navy???s Low Frequency Active Sonar (???LFA???) system because LFA harms sound-sensitive marine mammals like endangered whales, a coalition of conservation and animal welfare organizations expanded the existing lawsuit to challenge the agency???s reauthorization of nearly the same sonar program. Parties reached a settlement limiting the Navy???s sonar use to areas with low populations of marine mammals.
