Classroom Subscriptions

 What is a classroom subscription?
Classroom subscriptions consist of a bundle (29 copies and a teacher's guide) of each issue of Kind News, delivered bimonthly five times throughout the school year. The magazine is available in three reading levels: Primary (grades K-2), Junior (grades 3-4), and Senior (grades 5-6). A separate subscription must be ordered for each reading level.

What is the price for a classroom subscription and what does it include?
A classroom subscription is $30 and includes 5 bimonthly bundles of one reading level of Kind News. Each bundle contains 29 copies and a teacher's guide.

What if I need more copies?
Unfortunately, we are not able to customize the number of issues each classroom receives. If you need more copies, you will need to order another subscription. Some subscribers share extras with another teacher or school librarian.

I am a teacher. How much time will it take to incorporate Kind News into my curriculum?
Kind News is consistently praised by teachers as an excellent supplementary resource that requires little or no prep. Kind News is aligned with National Education Standards and can be readily incorporated into subjects like math, science, and language arts or simply handed out for students to read during free time or at home.

Can I subscribe in the middle of a school year?
Yes, a subscription entitles you to five issues of Kind News. If you subscribe after the school year begins, the subscription will be carried over into the next school year. However, for a subscription to begin in September, payment must be received by July 1.

How do I order or renew a classroom subscription?
If you would like to order classroom subscriptions to Kind News for yourself or someone else, fill out the New Subscription order form. (Animal care/control organizations, humane agencies, and members of the General Federation of Women's Clubs should use the Special Discount order form to take advantage of special discounts; see below for details.)

I live outside the United States. Can I get Kind News?
Yes! International classroom subscriptions are available at an extra cost. See the New Classroom Subscription order form for prices.

Adopt-a-Classroom Program

 What is the Adopt-a-Classroom program?
Through the Adopt-a-Classroom program, humane agencies, civic groups, parents, and businesses can "adopt" elementary school classes by providing them with gift subscriptions of Kind News. Learn how to start an Adopt-a-Classroom program in your community.

I would like to adopt a classroom, but I don't have one in mind. Can you choose one for me?
Yes, we maintain a pool of teachers waiting for a sponsor to provide them with Kind News. Simply contact 301-258-1528 or kindnews@humanesociety.org and we will select a recipient for you from the waiting list. The teacher will receive notification of the gift subscription, along with your name.

I am a teacher and would like to have my name added to the adoption pool.
Please send an email indicating you would like to be added to the list and include your name, school address, and grade level to kindnews@humanesociety.org. Teachers are chosen from the list on a first-come, first-served basis as funds become available for subscriptions.

I am a humane educator. How will Kind News help me in my community?
With responsible pet care as a constant theme, the Kind News Adopt-a-Classroom program is an important part of many local animal care and control organizations’ humane education programs.

When you participate in the Adopt-a-Classroom program, the teachers are notified that your agency has "adopted" their classrooms, and your agency's name appears on the mailing label of each bundle of Kind News. When adopting 500 or more classrooms, we can personalize every issue of Kind News with information about your agency (e.g., name, address, phone number, logo, and a short message about your programs). Kind News keeps important lessons about animal protection resonating in the classroom long after students’ last shelter tour or your last school presentation. Learn how to start an Adopt-a-Classroom program in your community.

I am with an animal care agency. Do I get a discount?
Yes! See the discounted rates and order Kind News subscriptions.

I am a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs. Do I get a discount?

Can you give me guidance in how to raise funds for an adopt-a-classroom program in my area?
Yes, please see our step-by-step guide to starting an Adopt-a-Classroom program. If you need help or have questions, contact Rachel Feldman at 301-258-1528 or rfeldman@humanesociety.org.

I would like to present an Adoption Certificate to my adopted classrooms. Is there one available?
