Humane education is a form of character education that encourages empathy and compassion for humans, animals, and the environment. Through our specialist and graduate certificate programs, we can show you how to introduce important animal welfare concepts to your community.
Certified Humane Education Specialist Program
Our Certified Humane Education Specialist (CHES) program is a series of online, instructor-led courses, designed to help classroom teachers, school administrators, youth outreach professionals, shelter directors, humane education specialists, and humane law enforcement officers enhance their credentials and effectively use their limited time and resources to build humane education programs in their communities. The courses focus on youth outreach and working with community and school groups to promote humane education and youth clubs.
Course content is based on academic research, and courses are centered on engaging activities with a wealth of practical tips and field-tested strategies for working with children, teens, school faculty, and youth leaders. Upon successful completion of the program, participants are eligible for CHES certification. Teachers may also be able to use the courses for their required professional development work. Humane Education Graduate Certificate
The Humane Education Graduate Certificate provides a focused program of study in humane education as it relates to academic curriculum and educational culture. Educators will learn to strengthen humane pedagogy and integrate concepts of compassion into their instruction by utilizing innovative research and best practices while actively addressing barriers to student achievement and confidence. Courses foster teacher growth through exploration of humane concepts as well as general education principles of theory and practice that enhance teaching.
