Acting Senior Director of the Animal Rescue Team

Adam Parascandola is the Acting Senior Director of the Animal Rescue Team at the Humane Society of the Unites States.

In this role, Adam oversees the Animal Rescue Team (ART)’s response to natural and man-made disasters around the United States. Adam previously led this team prior to 2015 in responding to and rescuing animals from animal fighting, puppy mills, hoarding and other forms of cruelty and neglect in the U.S. In this role, he also oversees the ART’s work with law enforcement to investigate animal cruelty and fighting and the response to these cases, as well as the ART’s response to natural disasters.

In addition, Adam Parascandola is also the Senior Director of Animal Protection and Crisis Response for Humane Society International. In this role, Adam focuses on coordinating policy related to cruelty intervention and response for all HSI offices, developing global strategies for, and assisting in, enacting and enforcing animal protection laws and cruelty response. He oversees HSI’s global anti-dogfighting initiative, which focuses on dismantling major dogfighting networks and eliminating safe havens for dogfighters around the world. Throughout his career, Adam has trained thousands of law enforcement and government officials in best practices for implementation of animal welfare laws and investigation of cases of animal cruelty and fighting.

In both positions, Adam works to rescue and respond to animals in crisis whether from the cruel dog meat trade, animal fighting, animal hoarding, puppy mills or natural disasters. Adam has coordinated the rescue of hundreds of dogs from the dog meat trade in South Korea and thousands more from cruel situations and natural disasters.

Adam has been in the animal welfare field for more than 20 years, overseeing all aspects of animal rescue, including the running of large-scale emergency shelters and traditional shelters as well as the handling and care of dogs, cats and other domestic animals. As a Humane Law Enforcement Officer in Washington, DC, Adam was responsible for enforcing animal cruelty laws and has been qualified as an expert witness in animal cruelty cases in several jurisdictions.

Adam has certification in key areas of disaster response and has deployed to disasters around the globe.
