Alexa Herndon is the Chief People Officer of the Humane Society of the United States.
She leads all Human Resources functions, systems and processes, which include talent acquisition and management, learning and development, succession planning, employee relations, organizational development and effectiveness, compensation and benefits, diversity, inclusion and culture.
Herndon spent the last eight years as Vice President, Human Resources for the Washington Nationals where she was responsible for leading the organization’s human resources strategy. Prior to joining the Nationals, Alexa held human resources roles of increasing responsibility with Thermo Fisher Scientific in Pittsburgh, Pa. and San Jose, Calif. She started her career in baseball as an HR Generalist with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Herndon received her J.D. and MBA from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and her B.S. in Business Administration from West Virginia University. Born in Wheeling, W.Va., she now resides in northern Virginia with her husband, their two young children and their rescue pup, California.
