Alexa Herndon is the chief people officer of the Humane Society of the United States.
Alexa Herndon leads all Human Resources functions, systems and processes, which include talent acquisition and management, learning and development, employee relations, compensation and benefits, diversity, equity and inclusion and organization culture.
Prior to joining the fight for all animals, Herndon spent eight years as vice president of Human Resources for the Washington Nationals. She has also held human resources roles of increasing responsibility with Thermo Fisher Scientific in Pittsburgh, Pa. and San Jose, Calif. She started her career as an HR generalist with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Herndon received her J.D. and MBA from Duquesne University and her B.S. in Business Administration from West Virginia University. During college, she was a leader on the WVU equestrian team and is especially passionate about our work to end equine cruelty. Born in Wheeling, W.Va., she now resides in northern Virginia with her husband, their two young children and their two rescue kitties, Opal and Obsidian.
