Katherine Karl is the general counsel and chief legal officer of the Humane Society of the United States.
She leads the Office of the General Counsel and the Animal Protection Litigation departments. She joined the HSUS from the American Cancer Society and was previously in a private practice where she advised a wide variety of tax-exempt organizations. Karl also served as a law clerk for a federal district court judge in the Southern District of New York. Before attending law school, she worked on Capitol Hill for a senior senator and the Senate’s Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
Kate is a graduate of Cornell University and Yale Law School.
