OKLAHOMA—The Humane Society of the United States is assisting law enforcement in Oklahoma with the rescue of over 100 animals, including dogs, goats, fish, a pig, and companion birds such as cockatoos and parrots, from an alleged cruelty situation. Responders and veterinarians from Operation Kindness and Black Beauty Ranch, which is a Humane Society of the United States sanctuary, are also assisting on-scene.

Temperatures were below freezing when rescuers and law enforcement arrived on-scene and were greeted by shivering dogs chained outdoors with inadequate protection from the elements. Veterinarians noted most of the dogs are underweight, with protruding hips and rib bones, and several have untreated injuries. The dogs and pig had no apparent access to food or water, and the goats only had access to a frozen-solid water trough. Companion birds were indoors in filthy, barren cages with no enrichment. The rescued animals will be transported to safe, undisclosed locations for in-depth veterinary exams and much-needed care.

Additional details about this situation will be available in the coming days.
