(FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida) -- South Florida Wildlife Center, an affiliate of the Humane Society of the United States, won the Publix Community Choice Award at the 9th Annual Community Care Plan Non-Profit Awards presented by Signature Grand and hosted by 2-1-1 Broward on Feb. 22. The presentation will take place at the Winners’ Circle Luncheon on March 22.    

Nominated alongside dozens of Broward based non-profits, South Florida Wildlife Center received the most votes from the public during the month-long voting period. They won a $1,000.00 grant for the award.

In receiving the news, Debra Parsons-Drake, executive director of the South Florida Wildlife Center said: “We are honored to have won this award thanks to overwhelming support from the community we serve here in Fort Lauderdale. The grant will be used to continue our lifesaving work treating more than 12,000 injured, orphaned and imperiled animals each year.”

The mission of the 9th Annual Community Care Plan Non-Profit Awards is to recognize and bring awareness to the collective work and impact of the non-profit organizations and leaders in Broward County
