The council includes doctors, attorneys, executives in the fields of nonprofit advocacy, technology and industry, and other activists and creative individuals.

The HSUS Dharmic Council is an affiliate of our national Faith Advisory Council. With more than a billion adherents, the Dharmic religions have long histories of ethical treatment of animals. Ahimsa, or nonviolence toward all living beings, is a central pillar in these religions.

“This is a natural partnership for us, given the rich tradition of concern for animals and abhorrence of cruelty in the Hindu, Jain, Sikh and Buddhist faiths,” says Wayne Pacelle, HSUS president and CEO.

Members of the HSUS Dharmic Leadership Council:

  • Serve as ambassadors for the Dharmic community in the United States
  • Remind the Dharmic community of their dietary and religious traditions
