Jessica Hyder is an East Tennessee native and lifelong animal lover. Before joining the Humane Society of the United States, she worked to advocate for public health issues across all levels of government. Hyder is passionate about strengthening Tennessee’s animal cruelty laws and protecting companion animals and wildlife, and is also committed to working with individuals and organizations across the state to improve the lives of animals in Tennessee. Hyder received her master's in public administration from East Tennessee State University in 2014. She and her husband have two rescues, Barnum and Gunner, who spend their days "working" from the futon in her office.
