April 21-23, 2023

Murchison, Texas

Travel with us and make memories that will last a lifetime. During your specially-curated journey, you will witness the work the Humane Society of the United States is doing to give these animals the life they deserve. Your participation provides critical resources needed to care for the residents of Black Beauty Ranch and it ensures even more animals can be rescued from harm’s way.

History of Black Beauty Ranch

Founded in 1979 by author and animal advocate Cleveland Amory, Black Beauty Ranch's 1,400+ acres are home to nearly 650 domestic and exotic animals, many of whom were rescued from slaughterhouses, biomedical research laboratories and trophy hunting ranches. Others came from roadside zoos or were victims of the exotic pet trade. Bison and cattle, horses and burros, antelope and apes, reptiles and tigers—all have permanent, safe homes at this animal sanctuary.

This trip includes:

Tiger enrichment activities.

Interacting with animals on Humane Journeys

Humane Journeys maintains a responsible and respectful animal-watching program. We ensure that our presence does not disturb the animals and we'll help you do the same. We will lead guests into areas where they will have the best chances to view and explain how best to interact with them. Humane Journeys staff can also assist in photographing guests at the sanctuary, providing a truly unique souvenir of the trip.

Ground transport

We will take care of your transportation to and from the sanctuary. Airport pick-up and drop-off are not included. Should you require your own rental car, both Dallas airports have multiple car rental agencies.

What to wear

Dallas averages a daily maximum temperature for April between 74 and 79 degrees Fahrenheit (23 to 26 degrees Celsius). Because guests spend most of the day outdoors, you will need to dress appropriately. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required, as is your HSUS-provided T-shirt, for our day at the ranch. Sunglasses and sunscreen are recommended.
